Oscar Wilde Said it Best

“We are all in the gutter, but some of us are looking at the stars.” – Oscar Wilde, Lady Windermere’s Fan

This is perhaps the most-known and most-beloved quote of Mr. Wilde’s. Make a quick Google image search for “inspirational quotes” and I can guarantee you that you’ll see this line plastered on top of a starry night background before you hit the bottom of page one. I was wrong; I should have tested that before I wrote it. All well. Good thing I didn’t guarantee you your money back. ; )  Even if you’ve never heard of Oscar Wilde, I’m sure you’ve heard this quote a thousand times.

Thanks, QuoteFancy.

Oscar Wilde is one of my favorite humans. And the above quote is one of my favorite quotes. Definitely words to live by.

So let’s break it down:

We are all fucked up in some way or another but we can’t let that keep us down.

It’s ok to express your frustration regarding the situation, but you can’t let that frustration hold you back! Move on, learn from what happened and make the best of it. Look at the possibilities that lie ahead and strive for them!

There have definitely been times when I don’t follow these words. Times where I just want to give up because everything has gone wrong.

And then I remember that nothing will change, nothing will get better, unless I stand up, brush off the dust and keep pushing forward.

We all have that one thing, be it a quote, a song or a movie, that we use as motivation on our hardest days. This is mine. What’s yours?
