The Only You That Matters

You are not the only version of you.

Thanks for making me doubt everything about my life, Tumblr.

Are these other versions of us what we really are? Pieces of us that we don’t want to acknowledge and so we keep them trapped in the back of our mind and only those around us can see who we really are?

Honestly, I’m not going to delve too much into this topic – it’ll only end up giving me a complex and I’m not in the mood for an  identity crisis today.

But I will say this: The only version of you that matters is who you are in your heart of hearts.

I’m sure that most people have me pegged as ‘cold’ and ‘rude’ because I suffer from Resting Bitch Face. I know that despite the natural way my face falls, I can be one of the nicest, caring and understanding people you will ever meet.

People will judge you based on the way you look, the vocabulary you use, the accent you have, where you live, the car you drive, who you hang out with and so much more. None of those things matter in the long run. None of those things define who you are.

Just because someone may have a preconceived notion of who you are stored away in their mind doesn’t mean that you have to change yourself to look better in their eyes. They can’t see the real you, the only you that matters, the you that you know you are.

We can’t please everyone and there are so many better things to do with your time than to change who you are to make someone else happy.

You do you, boo.
